Blog Entry Guidelines

The Center for Autism Research is looking for families to help our community better understand the benefits of participating in autism research.  To do so, CAR created a blog called Driven. The goal is to use this blog as a tool for families, individuals with autism, and researchers, to share their stories and knowledge with the greater community. You and your family are invited to contribute to this blog, which is hosted on the website

Here is what we are looking for:
-  A 500 to 1,000 word written entry about  a specific event, experience, question, topic, triumph, or challenge related to your child, autism, and/or your family.
Mention of participating in a research study at CAR is highly encouraged. While your entry does not have to be about autism research specifically, please try to incorporate your experience of participating in a research study at CAR into your entry.
- The entry can be written by a parent, sibling, grandparent, aunt, uncle or other family member of the child with autism. Or, you and your child could work together to write an entry.
- When applicable, CAR will list links to resources at the end of every entry so that other parents can access more information about the topic you wrote about. If you have suggestions for these resource links, please feel free to list them at the bottom of your entry.
- We basically want you to tell us a story…your story. If you could tell the world one thing about raising a child with autism, what would it be? What story do you want to tell other parents who also have a child (with or without autism)? What kinds of things did you learn about your child at CAR that you want everyone to know? Topics can be broad or specific. This blog is your platform.

To submit an entry to the CAR blog:

- Type your story on a Word document (or similar document)
- Email entry to Julie Mesaric at

Other Information:
- Once submitted, written entries will be subject to revision
- CAR will have final discretion on whether or not the entry will be posted on the live blog
- You will be notified if/when your blog entry is posted
- You can submit as many entries as you would like
- There is no deadline for submitting entries; you can write and submit any time

Researchers are working hard every day to find more answers about autism. Parents are working hard every day to ensure that their child is safe, happy, and healthy. We hope that this blog can be a portal for both families, scientists, and the community to gain a better understanding of each other. In the end, it is this kind of collaboration that will help find the answers that matter.

Thank you for considering writing an entry for this blog and for your continued support of CAR!

Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.
